About Kim Brewis
I am a Speech and Language Therapist based in Johannesburg. In 2011 I qualified from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal with a Bachelors degree in Communication Pathology, and then went on to graduate cum laude in my Masters degree in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), at the University of Pretoria.
I am originally from Durban and dreaded the ‘big move’ inland, but since moving to Johannesburg, I realise it was the best decision I could have made. I have made some of the most treasured friends here and now consider this big city my home. I am a huge animal lover and probably have too many pets for the size of my house! I enjoy hiking, sports, craft activities and baking. I love feeling productive at the end of a day, I am constantly looking for new ways to be challenged, and I believe that one of the keys to moving forward in life is by constantly growing and learning.
Since the start of my speech therapy journey, I have gained diverse experience, working in the paediatric, school-based (remedial and mainstream) and adult neuro populations. Furthermore, I have been involved in clinical supervision of students, and have experience as a part-time lecturer at The University of Witwatersrand.
I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of speech therapy and find my job extremely rewarding! Having witnessed its holistic benefits, I believe strongly in an interdisciplinary team approach to therapy, and hold pride in how it has assisted my clients to thrive in their therapeutic journey. Working with my clients adds laughter and joy to my day, which is invaluable. I enjoy solving unique problems and challenges in the various fields in which I work, and I find that working with the neurodiverse and paediatric populations help keep my creativity skills sharp. I am particularly passionate about language and literacy difficulties and how these can be tackled within these groups.
